Algebra and Measurement in NCEA Level 1 Mathematics covers the algebraic procedures and measurement skills assessed across Achievement Standards AS91027 (Apply algebraic procedures in solving problems), AS91028 (Investigate relationships between tables, equations and graphs), AS91030 (Apply measurement in solving problems), and AS91032 (Apply right-angled triangles in solving measurement problems) — including simplifying algebraic expressions, expanding and factorising, solving linear and simple quadratic equations, solving simultaneous linear equations, working with linear and quadratic relationships in tables, equations, and graphs, units of measurement and conversion, perimeter and area of 2D shapes, surface area and volume of 3D solids, Pythagoras’ theorem, and the trigonometric ratios sine, cosine, and tangent for finding unknown sides and angles in right-angled triangles. Students are assessed at Achievement, Merit, and Excellence, with higher grades requiring relational thinking and multi-step reasoning in increasingly unfamiliar contexts.

Students are expected to reason geometrically using appropriate properties and theorems and to communicate their reasoning clearly and precisely. Achievement requires the application of geometric knowledge in familiar situations, Merit requires relational thinking that connects multiple geometric properties, and Excellence requires the construction of multi-step geometric arguments in extended and unfamiliar contexts.
Explore Geometry and Trigonometry → Enrol in Geometry and Trigonometry →Statistics and Probability in NCEA Level 1 Mathematics covers the statistical enquiry, data analysis, and probability skills assessed across Achievement Standards AS91035 (Investigate a given multivariate data set using the statistical enquiry cycle), AS91036 (Investigate bivariate numerical data using the statistical enquiry cycle), AS91037 (Demonstrate understanding of chance and data), and AS91038 (Investigate a situation involving elements of chance) — including posing investigative questions, selecting and using appropriate displays such as dot plots, box-and-whisker plots, histograms, and scatter graphs, calculating and interpreting summary statistics, making comparisons between distributions, drawing and interpreting lines of best fit, theoretical and experimental probability, probability of combined events using tables and tree diagrams, conditional probability, expected value, and carrying out and analysing probability experiments. Excellence-level responses require students to demonstrate statistical insight and probabilistic reasoning in extended, unfamiliar situations.
